Step 3: Apply for your in-home assessment

Once registered, an assessor will call you and arrange a visit

This person will call you to arrange a time to visit your home.

During the visit, they’ll ask questions about your daily life, health, and environment to understand what supports could help you stay safe and independent.

On average, it takes 6–8 weeks to receive your assessment. If you’re a high priority, it can be quicker. If there are more people waiting in your area, it may take longer.

Step 4: Your assessment outcome

After your in-home visit, you’ll either be approved for a Home Care Package or not.

If approved, you’ll go on the national waitlist until your funding is assigned. This can take time, but remember — the earlier you start, the sooner your place in the queue is secured.
